In 1983, I met conceptual artist, Jeannie Cartabiano, completing her Master’s degree in New Forms and Concepts at UCLA. Together we created a cycle of works using texts of American Surrealist writer, Kenneth Patchen. Jeannie knew nothing of the traditions of ceramics, and thus blithely violated traditionalist preconceptions I brought to clay. I began reconsidering my assumptions.
